This special issue brings together a selection of peer-reviewed articles derived from contributions presented at the First National Conference on Mathematics and Artificial Intelligence (NCMAI’26), held at ENS Ouargla, Algeria. The conference provided a scientific forum for the exchange of recent advances at the interface of mathematics and artificial intelligence, with an emphasis on both foundational developments and emerging applications.

The articles included in this issue reflect the breadth and depth of the topics addressed during the conference. They encompass, among others, mathematical modelling, statistical and probabilistic methods, machine learning, optimization and numerical analysis, computer vision, and the integration of artificial intelligence in educational contexts. Collectively, these works demonstrate the essential role of mathematical structures and methodologies in advancing the theoretical understanding, robustness, and efficiency of contemporary AI systems.

Following the conference, a selection of contributions was invited to submit substantially extended versions of their work. All submissions underwent a rigorous peer-review process in accordance with the editorial standards of the journal, ensuring the scientific quality and relevance of the published articles.

This special issue aims to provide a coherent overview of current research directions at the intersection of mathematics and artificial intelligence, while fostering further developments and interdisciplinary collaboration in this rapidly evolving field.
